Community Business Partnership - Getting Started in Small Business

Community Business Partnership - Getting Started in Small Business

Step 1:  Attend Our FREE Orientation!

Community Business Partnership offers a free one hour orientation to get you acquainted with our resources and services - after all, it is important to know what we can and cannot do to help you.  The Small Business Resources (SBR) orientation is offered at least twice a month and it is highly recommended that you attend SBR before registering for any other classes and is required prior to meeting with a counselor.  REGISTER HERE!

Step 2:  Is Your Idea a Feasible Business?

Somewhere between scribbling your idea on a cocktail napkin and actually starting a business, there's a process you need to carry out that determines if your idea will make for a successful business. Oftentimes, would-be entrepreneurs get so excited about their "epiphanies" - the moments when they imagine the possibilities of a given idea - that they forget to find out whether that idea is viable as a business.

Of course, sometimes the idea works anyway, in spite of a lack of market research. Unfortunately, most times, the idea crashes and burns, halting a business in its tracks. We'd like to help you avoid the latter.

We have created 5 core classes to research help you determine the feasibility of your business:

  • ABC’s of Starting a Business
  • The Five Steps to Creating a Marketing Plan
  • Are Your Dollars Making Sense?
  • Options for Funding
  • Registering Your Business - The Legal Nuts and Bolts
If you are considering government contracting as a business model, we also highly recommend taking our "So You Want to be a Federal Contractor?" class before starting down the path of government procurement.

You can register for these classes (and many more) via our website.

The Business Model Canvas is an excellent way to capture and organize the data from your feasibility analysis.

Step 3:  Write Your Business Plan!

Now that you have determined your idea is feasible as a business, it's time to development your execution strategy - also known as your business plan.  The SBA has a number of resources available to assist you with writing your business plan.

Step 4:  1-on-1 Counseling

Once you have a draft business plan, you are ready to meet with a counselor.  Contact us at info@cbponline.org should you have any questions about working with us.
